Transactional Attorney

Shannon & Wright LLP is actively seeking a Transactional Attorney to support our Business, Real Estate, and Tax practices conducting sophisticated business and real estate transactions. This position can be based out of our Alexandria or Leesburg office.

Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of relevant experience in such areas as: drafting and negotiating various agreements (asset purchase and sale, shareholder, operating, executive compensation, non-compete, etc.), stock purchase and recapitalizations, M&A transactions, and all types of real estate transactions. Candidates should have experience strategically advising clients, identifying and minimizing potential risks. Candidates must be barred in Virginia (MD and DC a plus).

The position will entail working with partners on all aspects of legal matters with direct client interaction representing a diverse group of reputable and well-established individual and corporate clients. Successful candidates will have excellent writing, research, and communication skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely and support Partners’ matters representing clients in a wide range of transactional needs
  • Communicate and update clients as needed throughout representation
  • Meet with new clients to assess their needs, identify their goals, and determine the best course forward in satisfying those needs
  • Ensure timely entry of time and billing details daily and in line with the firm best practices
  • Work with Firm Administrator and the Managing Partner to support the goals of the firm
  • Ensure all actions are consistent with best practices for attorneys including the ethical and professional standards of the Virginia State Bar and other applicable bars

Ideal Candidates will:

  • Have active Virginia State Bar Membership in good standing
  • Have minimum of 5 years corporate and/or transactional experience
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of commercial law knowledge
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Have excellent organizational skills including capturing, detailing and follow up skills
  • Demonstrate professionalism with all team members
  • Commit to the professional, integrity and loyalty that are keystones for the firm
  • Have proficient technology skills utilizing Adobe and the Microsoft Office Suite including Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel

Preferred, but not required:

  • Delaware, NY, DC, MD or FL Bar Membership
  • Clio and NetDocuments software experience

Litigation Paralegal

Shannon & Wright LLP is actively seeking a full-time Litigation Paralegal to provide support services to attorneys who serve clients in the areas of civil litigation, real estate and land use, as well as general business transactions. Candidates will have the option to work in our Old Town Alexandria or downtown Leesburg office locations.

As a Paralegal, you will ensure the efficient and timely workflows of attorney and client needs. The position entails direct client interaction and requires professional communication skills, both verbal and written. Responsibilities include proactively coordinating and completing pre-trial and trial assistance for General District Court, Circuit Court, and Appellate Courts at both federal and state levels.

Candidates with a strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and proactive approach to assignments will excel in this position. Responsibilities include:

  • Closely supporting multiple attorneys to effectively manage coordination of assignments and case deadlines while proactively providing routine status updates for tasks;
  • Having a working knowledge and familiarity with legal processes and local court procedures;
  • Assisting with document retrieval, review, organization and production;
  • Maintaining case pleadings, correspondence, discovery and research for client files in high volume cases;
  • Closely monitoring the status of cases and calendaring case deadlines and hearings;
  • Processing online filings with the courts;
  • Cite-checking and editing legal documents;
  • Organizing and preparing exhibit lists;
  • Conducting legal research;
  • Assisting with deposition and trial site preparation;
  • Coordinating various case needs with outside vendors;
  • Maintaining confidentiality of client information; and
  • Adherence to firm policies and procedures related to best practices related to case management and daily timekeeping.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years providing legal support services;
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Have excellent organizational skills, including high level attention to detail;
  • Have effective client relationship management skills;
  • Demonstrate proficiency using technology and software, specifically Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe;
  • Have the ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities; and
  • Thrives in a group environment and has a teamwork mentality.

Preferred, but not Required:

  • 4-year college degree
  • Clio software experience
  • Lexis Advance and/or Westlaw experience
  • Public Notary

Hours: Core work hours are from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Must be available for occasional overtime as needed. The firm also offers a compressed work schedule option.
