Accounting & Billing Coordinator
Shannon Mullins & Wright LLP is seeking a full-time Accounting & Billing Coordinator who is responsible for managing the firm’s accounts receivable, accounts payable, monthly billing cycle, and daily banking transactions.
The ideal candidate will have experience generating client invoices in an automated billing system (Clio) and a working knowledge of QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Adobe. Prior experience with CRM databases, timekeeping applications, and Trust account management are a plus. Candidates should have experience maintaining and organizing accounting files, both electronically and in hard copy.
This role requires integrity, discretion, and accuracy with respect to standard bookkeeping best practices. Candidates should have strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a sense of ownership in meeting firm established deadlines. This role requires direct interaction with clients and our outside accounting firm and requires a high level of professionalism.
Candidates should have at least one year of accounting experience in a law firm or professional services organization in addition to an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Prior management experience is a plus, but not required. Compensation is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Coordination of time entry collection and adherence to firm deadlines;
- Drafting, editing, finalizing and distributing of client invoices, including preservation of files;
- Record incoming payments to Operating and Trust accounts daily, to include the application of Trust funds to authorized invoices;
- Reconciliation of all bank and credit card accounts;
- Provide various daily, weekly and monthly financial reports;
- Manage journal entries in QuickBooks to include classification or reclassification of transactions;
- Process remote bank deposits;
- Manage firm expenses for all accounts payable;
- Generate new client reports;
- Generate monthly AR reports and conduct appropriate client follow up as needed;
- Issue check requests as needed;
- Issue expense reimbursements monthly;
- Ensure billable expenses are captured on client monthly invoices;
- Timely follow up to all billing inquiries both internal and external;
- Assist in maintaining and updating our internal financial systems and processes;
- Assist Firm Administrator with financial or operations projects as needed;
- Practice proactive problem solving, analytical thinking, task management and exercise good judgement.

Litigation Associate
Shannon Mullins & Wright LLP is growing and actively seeking an experienced civil and commercial litigation associate who will serve as a pivotal member within the practice area.
Based in Old Town Alexandria Shannon, Mullins & Wright serves individuals and businesses throughout Virginia, D.C., and Maryland, providing services in the areas of Business, Tax, Estate & Trust, Construction, Litigation, Land Use, and Real Estate.
The position will entail working on all aspects of legal cases from direct client interaction and communications through drafting independent motions, representing clients in all levels of VA courts, Circuit Court and Appellate level cases, and serving as lead counsel in General District Court matters. This position will report to the Managing Partner while collaboratively working with our other partners, attorneys and SMW staff.

Responsibilities include:
- Independently manage and perform complex civil litigation procedures to caseload from client intake to closing file as assigned
- Work closely and support Partners’ cases and legal projects representing clients in a wide range of litigation needs
- Regularly attend, lead and assist in court appearances and depositions
- Consistently communicate and update clients on case progress and actions
- Meet with new clients to assess, draft and complete the legal needs of the new clients
- Coordinate and assist in all aspects of litigation through trial and completion of the case
- Ensure timely entry of time and billing details daily and in line with the firm best practices
- Work with the Firm Administrator and Managing Partner to support the goals of the firm and the partners
- Ensure all actions are in support of the Virginia Bar and other applicable bars, and legal best practices
Ideal Candidates will:
- Have current Virginia Bar Membership in good standing
- Have minimum 1-4 years successfully litigating civil cases in Virginia courts
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of civil court system
- Demonstrate strong understanding of commercial law knowledge
- Demonstrate strong legal processes and local court requirement familiarity including trial and appellate court systems
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
- Have excellent organizational skills including capturing, detailing and follow up skills
- Demonstrate professionalism with all team members
- Commit to the core values of the firm: professionalism, integrity and loyalty
- Have professional office experience using Adobe and the Microsoft Office Suite including Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel
